Sedan window trim plates
 

On my 1930 Tudor, many of the screw holes are very difficult to get the screw started as the holes don't line up well. (talking about the horizontal door plates at the bottom of the windows) Especially the last one as the others pull the plate away from the last hole. Anyone else seen this? Any ideas on how to line the holes up? No body work was done on the door other than a patch panel on the bottom of the door.

113 views, and no one has ever had trouble with the screw holes lining up with the door frame?

Mr. Moose, Could you post a picture. Maybe that would help? I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to and perhaps others are not either.

are your garnish mouldings reproductions? That might be a problem. Look for an original piece to test fit.

Oversized screws, undersized trim holes. If this is the issue replace the d-nuts or if you don't mind oversized screws, inlarge the dimples in the trim

Here's the last screw installed that won't go in. The other screws once in force the door to where the hole no longer lines up. I've chased all the threads with a tap, and tried not tightening any until they are all in, but I can't get the last one. It came apart with all screws in place, and yes, it's factory original.

I've had a lot of trouble lining up the holes on my driver's side plate. Don't know what to tell you, and I suppose that's why you're not getting much response. I just kept at it until I finally got it.
Seems to me I had to temporarily shim the aluminum plate that goes on first and enlarge some of the slots in that plate so the final top plate could line up. You may find that even when you get it on it causes that bottom plate to bind the window so it can't role up and down. Just keep smiling and trying.

Will the two end screws go in with out the other middle screws? If not put one screw in one end and bow the middle part of the trim up and start the other end screw. Push the middle down and install the remaining screws.

My experience is those don’t bow
I know they should only go one way but exhausting all thought ….
Any chance you need to swap sides??
Another off the wall…. Will they fit in not snugged down and tighten one at a time? Probably would spoil paint
