Me Again! Wiring problem on F1
 

Working on my 1950 Ford F1 almost everyday trying to get it on the road. Found this truck last spring sitting in a barn in Northeast Montana where it had sat for over 40 years. It had a very amateur frame off in 1984 and parked. I have got it running like a swiss watch (motor was done by old time flathead guy). Replace the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses and several of the brake lines. Just put on a set of Reds Headers and waiting on Brockmans 12in steel packs. (Might be here today) Thought the Smitty's were to quiet for what I wanted. (thanks for everyone's help) Installed all NOS gauges. All new complete wiring. Truck runs good and drives good. Only driven about 5 miles so far. Now Here is my latest problem. Ordered a turn signal kit and installed yesterday. hooked it up like the instructions said. I hooked up the front first and they work perfect. Next ran the wires to the rear. got the left rear to blink but when I step on the brake the turn signals quit working. Only two wires come off the tail lights. (They are new also). I don't get how the turn signals will work when the rear tail lights are wired together. What am I doing wrong? Do I have the correct tail lights? Please give me some advice and Thanks for all Your Help so far.

Here is a picture of the truck if I can get it to load. Was painted in early eighties Mercury Marquis Gold. Hated it at first but now getting use to it. Its a 20 footer paint job. Truck came from the original owners who used it for a salesman's truck at their International Tractor dealership. They still have two more of their old dealership trucks. (one is another 50 F1)

Couple of other things on the truck. Next I will be changing the 4-speed tranny to a 3-speed so it will shift better, (Have one at the tranny shop getting rebuilt now) after that 10in smoothie wheels on rear with factory hubcaps and trim rings

Nice looking truck! You have clearly been busy.

For the turn signal issue; the two wires on the taillights (assuming they are dual filament bulbs) are both "hot" wires, with grounding thru the frame. One is for the brakes/turns, the other is the running lights. Usually the black one is the brake/turns but check to be sure.

PS the "grounding thru the frame" part is sketchy, I ran a separate ground wire to the frame. The bed itself is not really well grounded.

Thanks, I ran 2 wires from the turn signal switch to the rear of the truck. How do I tie into the brake light wire on both tail lights when they are connected as one? I have a brown wire on the turn signal that it says to connect to the brake switch? Why??? Hope I am asking the right questions.

Some kits require a separate bulb for the turn signals. Do the kit instructions state that it will work with the brake/tail lamps?

If I get where you are at.....the brake goes through the TS to seperate the brake and Signals when needed. Earlier styles required a seperate lamp or dual filament bulbs.

These are the two kinds of signal systems as JSeery alludes to. If you are supposed to tie into the brake light circuit, you undoubtedly have the more complex system. You have to cut the wire to the RH brake light bulb and reconnect it to the RH turn wire.

The brown wire that goes to the brake lite switch. So when You hit the brakes does the power from the brake lite switch feed back thru the turn signal switch and then to the right tail lamp after you cut the normal brake lite wire and make the brake lite come on? Think I said that right! I hope!

Mike, Just took off the Smitty's and started it up to run back in garage. Sounded really Good with just the straight pipes. Though the pipes don't go all the way to the back.
