New project 1936 ford truck
 

Hi all newbe here from australia i got my self a 1936 1 1/2 ton truck to fix up. Engine runs very well and drives came with a full new set of tyres fitted when i got it. Should be good fun when its up and going. Will add more pics when i get the chance. Dose anyone know were i could get a spare rim? iam short for my spare.

your rims probably have a lock ring, which when removed allows the tire to come off--true widowmaker rims are actually joined in the middle of the rim and were prone to rust in the lock channell and will split open very easily and the tire will blow off. That being said the split rims can do the same if the lock has not been installed correctly--always put any of these rims in a cage to inflate safely--your truck looks like a winner-continue to show us progress you are making

Some work i have done so far repaired grill and made up some new grill bars and welded in. Second Hand wood i picked up to bulid the tray. Anyone got any pics of trays or plans on trays? would help me out. Got new water pumps coming, engine mounts, head light glass and reflectors, king pin set, door handles and front shackles. Replacing some wood in the cab at the moment will get some pics when i get the chance.

by tray, do you mean platform or bed? my truck has a script bed and is steel, there were a lot of local mfg beds made completely out of wood, so I guess you could make up about anything you want. If you are just looking for some appropriate measurements I will mesure mine for you.

You will likely have trouble finding a tray or flatbead frame as Ford trucks had a frame width of 38 inches from 32 to 36 only. Model AA flatbeds will not work as AA frame rails are not parallel. From 37 on frame width was standardized for big trucks at 34 inches. I took measurements off a surviving flatbed, drew up plans and had a local shop with a ten foot metal brake make all the rails and cross pieces. A local welder stuck it all together. The deck is made of black stained wood with flat skid strips (this allows for wiggle room as planks do not have to be absolutely straight). It is a "reasonable facsimile" project but it looks good and trim. I am not good at posting pictures but a picture can be seen on the Trucks Gallery for 1932 on the Early Ford V8 website. I can send copies of my drawings if you wish.

Truck wheel bolt patterns changed in 34 to a bigger bolt pattern. Be sure to measure yours before buying a spare as they look similar unless viewed side by side.

Hi alan the tray i want to make will be a full wood tray and frame ive got the ruff measurements i want iam after some pics ect of how it would be made it i could. Hi 1932bb your drawings would be good to have a copy also if i could thanks. Also thanks about the info about the wheels.

the wooden ones I have seen are made just like the metal one in the pictures, with the perimeter wood having brackets to hold the stakes protruding from this wood

Hi all been busy making and replacing the wood in the cab old wood remove ready to be madeAttachment 180191 old and new door jam posts madeAttachment 180192 new bottom frame made and fitted on sides and rear of cab and bolted to chassisAttachment 180193Attachment 180194 door jam posts screwed and body skin nailed to it.Attachment 180195 now on to replacing wood above and below rear window.

Also i found the rear bottom caps that bolt to the top mount that the rear springs are held to and hold the diff in place are missing.:eek: Attachment 180201Attachment 180202 dose any one know were i could get some or has some on a old diff i could buy?:)
