So WHO is Rod Wade?

My voyage of discovery started with the back cover of Snyder's 2015 print catalog, where a well decked out 1930 Tudor Sedan was pictured. The caption included "Peking to Paris". Well, that peaked my attention and I began to dig further into this intriguing story.

For those of you who believe that the Model A is just for parades and weekend outings, I would suggest that you to begin a quick look into who Rod Wade is.

Aussies do not get extra points for an early lead into this discovery!

WOW - what a story. I laughed because I am a novice and have not driven my Roadster over 15 miles one way from my garage just in case I have to tow it home. Guess Lewis & Clarke or Rod would not want me as a side kick......lol Thanks for sharing his story!

Been there, done most of that outback stuff.

The web page makes him seem like Steve Irwin's brother.

This should be do-able in an old car. Of course Rod would summit the 1113 sand dunes of the Simpson Desert.

Rod Wade is also known as the Vintage Adventurer and has a web site, www.vintageadventurer.com.au He has a true passion for the model A and really puts them through the paces! In 2016 he ran a 4-door model A in the Peking to Paris rally. In 2015 I was with him running from Steep Point on the west coast of Australia to Byron Bay on the east coast crossing all 5 deserts! This past year I also accompanied him from Cockle Creek in Tasmania to the furthest point north at Cape York running the Telegraph Track. Updraught, we actually did cross the 1113 sand dunes in the Simpson and made it up Big Red. Our goal was to reach Birdsville in time for the Birdsville Races but we were a day too late! We got into Birdsville around 9pm and ended up camping in a field just outside of town that night. Don Snyder

I'm still on the mailing list for the Peking to Paris. I think a couple of years ago the entry fee was $43,000 of our dollars. They say they have never left anyone behind, which is comforting...

For anyone interested, there was a TV series made in 2005 and shown here about the original Peking to Paris recreation (as close as you could get). It is well worth seeing. There is also a nice coffee table book. One of those taking part was cartoonist Warren Brown.

Getting close, I like to keep my oil fresh so I change it at least every 3 years.:D:D:D:D
