Re: 16" Wheels

Im running modern radials on 16" ford wires.having driven cars with 19 and 21 inch stock wheels I can say the advantage is amazing...ride and handling vastly improved.,but the biggest increase is in braking effciency, I run cast iron drums with woven shoes with correctly fitted teds floaters. The ability to apply full braking effort without skidding allows my mechanical brakes to operate comparable to hydraulics.

Re: 16" Wheels

Mike at Classitique did a fine job sewing my top..he kept his word on the delivery date (10/23 and it came a week early) and the work is first class.Gonna wait for a bit before I put it on,still a few weeks of real good open car weather yet..want to drive it year round so the top will go on,but it was nice having an open car for the summer..Thats the original top bows, main bow and belt rail, hard as a rock.I lined the bows with flat bar to brace the 90 year old joints..

She's a matching frame/engine number/fuel tank date (within a week or so) car would have been an easy restoration...but there are enough restored model a's around..

Re: 16" Wheels

Pretty much decided on 29" tall P215/75-16 tires. Close to the 29.5" tall 19" tires now on the Huckster.

Back in the day taller rear tires had really nothing to do with stance, hotrodders were after road speed, big tires gave you 'hotrod overdrive'. Randy, thats a beautiful roadster..

P215/70R16. I have been using this size tires since I rebuilt the car neatly 20 years ago.

Re: 16" Wheels

Went internet tire shopping. Bought (2)- Douglas P215/70-16 Made In USA for $52.00/each at Walmart. Look pretty good mounted up. Wondering if (2)- matching Douglas P225/70-16 at $61.00/each on the rear would fit OK. About .5" taller and .3" wider. Trying to decide if they might be too wide for the wheels. Anyone tried that size?

Douglas tires are a line of tire manufactured by Goodyear. It would seem you got a good quality tire.

You will be fine with the bigger size. The load rating plus the wide footprint means modern radials on an A have an easy life, even with some sidewall deflection they work fine, the 205/55 16's I use have quite a bit..Got mine for 52 bucks a piece, not too worried about life given the price and the low load on them..I even 'crown' the fronts some, running 45 pounds pressure to reduce steering effort..I use construction grade steel valve stems, spend money for good valve stems, its often overlooked..

Re: 16" Wheels

On the 29 CCPU has 21 like OEM

On the 31 Slant 16 s They look great on the slant but distinct advantage on touring vehicle. Better handling less wondering, more tread on road for improved braking and a slightly better ride.

Put modern shocks on the Slant which greatly improved handling and ride. The slant is our main touring vehicle.

Love the CCPU but not so much for a long tour....

I guess you don't realize that your "Crown" will wear away and flatten the tread. All you are doing is wearing out the center of you tires faster.
