White Fords

What year did Ford first offer the color white to the public ???

Re: White Fords

Henry Ford made quite a few cars prior to 1908 that could be purchased in about any color the customer wanted. I don't really have any idea when the first use of white may have been but I'd wager in was in those early years before mass production. After the Model T began its iconic assembly line run, the color options would have made the basic car more expensive so black became a standard that lasted a for long time.

I believe he meant the "modern era" and I would guess 52. Of course commercial vehicles could be whatever color the customer wanted.

According to the Paint and Finish Guide white was standard on the 1931 Deluxe pickup.

Correction: Portland Rose Festival. I couldn't find a pic of the 1939 parade Fords, but here's a pic of an earlier Rose Festival car. The 1939 Fords were all white, with a single large red rose on the door. Open cars were used for politicians and celebrities, followed by closed cars carrying less important staffers.

This picture opens up some questions. It has often been said that in Australia, Ford introduced the first Coupe Ute. In the USA, the first official Coupe Ute was the 1957 Ford Ranchero. Looking at this picture, and it seems that this is a perfect example of a Coupe Ute that predates the Australian invention?

An accidental Ute! Or a fancy PU.

You guys are talking about the Rose Bowl Parade. The white Fords were in the Rose Festival Parade in Portland, Oregon. Two different animals.

That doesn't look like an authentic Ute to me, and look at the GE logo and modern font. No way, Jose.

That's a 1931 Deluxe Pickup. It was a limited production model at the end of the '31 year. Most were purchased by General Electric and/or Firestone. Very few survivors.

I've got an automobile quarterly with a spread on the model A and there is one of these utes in that. Those chrome rails on the back make it look like it has escaped from the local funeral parlour.

Portland OR is on the west coast? I could have sworn it was well inland tucked well back behind the coastal range.... ;)
