Clutch Was hoping someone has run into this issue and could share some wisdom. 36 truck with 8BA and 39 transmission. I have, I believe 39 pedal assembly. As it was I did not have enough clutch so gears would grind. When I took out the floor and adjusted the clutch linkage problem Was fixed. Put the floor back in and it pushes the pedal down just enough that the throw out bearing is now touching the fork and spinning.
Basically I need the distance to get the clutch to fully depress but to get there with floor down throw out bearing is spinning in neutral. Thanks. |

Re: Clutch Maybe the bushings on the cross shaft are worn and using up some of your pedal travel without actually moving the clutch arm.

Re: Clutch So let me add in another question. I mentioned it is a 36 truck with 39 clutch lever on transmission and 39 pedal assembly. Has anyone changed out to a 39 pedal assembly and if so was there any modifications that were needed with regard to the pedal assembly?

Re: Clutch I don't know how your '36 frame compares to my '38 pickup but in mine the '39 clutch pedal bottoms out on the frame when fully depressed. This limits the pedal travel and thus limits the adjustability. The '39 frames have a "dimple" that allows the clutch pedal to clear the frame and travel farther. One way around this issue is to heat and hammer a dimple in the frame for clearance.

Re: Clutch So just wanted to update everyone and close this out. 1st, thanks for all the responses and help. The issue I was having was due to to the clutch not going down far enough so the gears would grind. As a fix I created a little bit of space by shimming some frame to body pad in-between the floor and cab. Then I cut just a little bit out of the floor to give me a little more play in the return of the clutch. Probably credit should go to Mac Vanpelt for the suggestions. Thanks again everyone.
