1930-31 Model A pickup fenderless
 

Anybody run fenderless on a 1930-31 Model A pickup but keep the splash aprons? Im curious how it would look. thanks guys.

thanks David im not looking to buy a coupe but wondering how only splash aprons look on a truck. i cant find any pictures anywhere so i bet it dosent look good at this point, thanks .

Personally, I think a fenderless pick-up looks out of proportion simply because the bed is too long. Shorten it a tad and it looks better I think.


The thing I have heard is the apron flutters when unsupported at the front from air passing over it at speed. Add an extension to the front of the apron that tapers up and covers the frame rails in the engine compartment and it will look cool and support the apron.

Course "back in the day", the reason for removing fenders was to save weight and thereby make the car faster. So why keep the splash aprons?

IMHO, aprons without fenders look funny - like the job of either taking off the fenders or putting them on wasn't finished. Course, I also don't like the look of a highboy A on an A frame - the sides of the body extend too far past the frame rails. Maybe it's the bead or something, but a 32 frame looks better.

I like the look of this roadster with the splash aprons. it might transfer for over to a truck but never seen it done.

I think if you have splash aprons it looks like you're missing the fenders. But then I prefer full fenders and splash aprons, like they came. But do it your way.

If you want a clean look for a step use the brackets and some 1in weathered hard wood planks.



every genre has a stance and they are all terrible except maybe a little low in the front and some big rear tires.

if you have fenders and they are rough a decent fab guy could probably fix them up to decent condition in little time.


Mine had many dents and 4 tears/cracks. I fixed them up in a day or two of work and Im no pro.

I used to know a guy who was an expert body man - he once made a decent fender from pieces of four junk ones. But he preferred truck driving to body work! :eek:

Picture in Post #8 NOT too low in the front and I think it would look better with the pans ON. JMO

Dry Lakes racers used to drive their cars to the lake bed, remove the fenders to cut wind resistance, race, re-install them and drive home. Splash aprons were very difficult to remove, and they have very little wind resistance. IMO, they looked pretty cool.

For the hot rod fenderless look , I don't run splash aprons . I prefer to save the splash aprons to be used on a restored or original look model A .

well i finally found a model a pick up with splash aprons only this past weekend at The Race Of Gentleman TROG.
