Original Fuel Sender Fit?

I have a '41 P-U with a new gas tank and repop sender. I want to substitute a mid-40's OEM King-Seeley sender for accuracy. Someone told me the K-S would not fit a new tank. I want to know why not?

Most new tanks don't have the same screw pattern as the original. They are made for the repop senders.

Alan, measure the outside diameter of the repop sender and do the same on the original sender. If they are both the same size then the original may fit, but you may have to re-drill the holes in the original sender to match the tank holes. I have also seen some tanks with two sets of holes and they will use either the repop modern sender or an original sender.

Re: Original Fuel Sender Fit?

It seems like a adapter was made to fit but it changes the height of the sender in the tank a bit. I guess they figure that since the OEM KS stuff isn't reproduced that they have to put a modern fit bung in there. The logic is not too good though since the KS units last a very long time by comparison to the resistance type units. Most folks don't keep a car long enough to know this bit of information. The other problem is that the modern senders don't work well with the OEM gauge and no one actively produces modern OHMs level replacements for all the old gauges. Sort of a Catch 22.
