Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Hi All,
I’m working on figuring out if this grill is worth recrhroming. Assuming repair was between the 50’s and 80’s. Look like brass/ bronze as there’s a copper sheen and it was not rusted or patina’d green or anything. What was common back then? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c7621d707c.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...10b9b0e94c.jpg |
Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Its braze ,not good.To me not worth trying to restore.
|
Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford I agree with Sheldon, but if you want to give it a try, the only safe bet is to remove all of the brazing and replace it with steel welding. On second viewing of your photo, I notice serious oxidation damage to the grille bars, which says to me that it is beyond saving except for use as a wall decoration.

Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford looks like it was brazed, in essence brass, it can be chromed too, but it won't like to be hammered on to straighten

Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Thanks fellas. I’m sending detailed pics to Paul’s chrome regarding cost to repair and salvage. It’s getting very hard to find straight ones and Drake stopped making them a few years ago.

If you keep looking decent ones have turned up recently. To repair and chrome that from what I see will cost a fortune. A friend here bought one 2 months ago($2800) that was advertised. It had just been replated by a shop in TN.

Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Here is a link to Ernie Adams garage, where he is building a grill for
his 1934 Ford dwarf car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F7IWk7FJh0 Do a search for Ernie Adams Dwarf Car museum, and see what this true craftsman has built for running/driving cars. Now, I don't know if Ernie is Still even around, but if he is, maybe this craftsman would Rebuild Your grill for you ? long shot, i know;) If you do a search for his Museum, there is a phone number listed. . |
Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Thanks Lanny, I've run across that before, what a craftsman and fun to watch.
|
Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford That was really fun to watch. Thank you for sharing.

Re: Help ID grill repair metal 34 ford Just as a follow up, Paul's chrome is willing to repair/re-plate but was very upfront about the cost involved. I respect that, so the hunt continues for a better candidate. I'll work on this one and get it as smooth and healthy as I can, could be painted and used on a driver or make a wall hanger.
