I started cleaning the oil pump for the Old 59 Flatty and i couldn't believe what I found.

I would have thought the oil pump would have been the last thing to have rotted out.

Now that is crusty! Must have been some acidic sludge in the bottom of that engine. How does the oil pan look?

All condensation or other water ends up at the lowest level and the oil stays on top of it. Look carefully for cracks.

59 series post ww2 flatty. It might be significant that the motor was stored upside down or on it's side. The oil pan is next on the list for a close inspection. There is no sign of similar erosion anywhere else (I hope).

Mart just use some JB weld epoxy to cover over those holes it will be good as new.

Mart, let's face it. The stuff you open up are the ones most people just walk past. And then you go and post a video of it zooming up a hill with a bunch of high dollar(high pound?) cars. Nice oil pump by the way. :)

I just went and had an initial scrape about in the bottom of the oil pan. It has some interesting sludgy deposits but luckily and hopefully there doesn't appear to be any corrosion That'll be tomorrow's job, to clean that up. Again, luckily I do have an oil pump I can put in it.

i was once trying to free up a stuck w2 halftrack motor. crowbar on the flywheel, bang! she let loose then felt fine. after tear down i found the oil pump was all that was stuck, and i had sherd off the drive forcing it to turn. oil pan was full of water
