Floor jack craps out after 40+ years Well, it finally happened after 40+ years. My Sears 2 1/2 ton jack eased down and can't be pumped up enough to slip under my 35 pickup, and hold it up. :(
I checked the hydraulic fluid and it looks to be okay, just down about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Will purchase and add fluid tomorrow to see if that helps. I was just fixing to stick floor jacks under it when it started down. Fortunately no injury or damage. Just a little damn language. LOL Any comments/suggestions considered. :D |
Re: Floor jack craps out after 40+ years Maybe some crud stuck in the relief?

Re: Floor jack craps out after 40+ years Try bleeding the air out of it.
If I read correctly, loosen the handle as if you were dropping it down. Then slowly pump the handle a few times all the way up and down. there is a whole thread on the subject over at GarageJournal.com http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...highlight=jack |
Re: Floor jack craps out after 40+ years I had the same problem with my Sears jack of about the same age. I went to a hydraulic place and was able to get the necessary parts to fix it and it is still working. I did take my instruction manual with me which helped. I also think I took some of the parts to be sure I got the right parts.
