53 Ford Radiator

I am currently working on the cooling system and had my original radiator tested.
I knew it had a leak and the radiator shop told me that it needed to be re-cored (which they could do) or buy a new one. They recommended a new one as an option. Any suggestions?

What's the cost difference? What's the quality difference?

they mentioned an aluminum radiator at $700 and $580 to re core.

The 'new' aluminum radiators that I have see do not look any thing like the original radiator. If you don't care about looking original then that's an option.
If the top of your tank is in good shape (no major dents/creases etc.) then a re-core will serve you just as well as a new aluminum one.

Give a call to U.S. Radiator. My neighbor got one from them for his 53 and it looked like original. It was a copper/brass radiator and the price was the same as a recore. www.usradiator.com

I put a U.S. Radiatior in my '53 and it is very good. Looks original and keeps my Ardun at 162. Good service too.

If your not concerned about "original looks" check out www.championcooling.com they have a great one for about $200 that includes shipping. Put one of these chrome beauties in my 52 and love it. Sorry the pic is sideways.
