29 light switch

New poster and new to Model A’s. My light switch was and still is very hard to turn and only occasionally connects so the lights come on and then only on low beam. I have replaced every part piece by piecE (horn rod, bail, switch housing, loom, spider spring and washer) to no avail. The only thing I ever saw that looked suspicious was a PO had filed Both sides of the spider to a wedge shape. I have inserting the switch on the spider with the contacts in as many different orientations as I find possible but nothing! Does anyone have any suggestions?

CouldnÂ’t find that article but I do have the one that shows trimming .035 from the housing or the contact plate but my plate seems to have sufficient room. My thought is that perhaps the spider is sliding into the upper part of the switch housing incorrectly since I can orient the upper part interior pieces to several angles (actually degrees since they rotate)

Here's the article. When you replaced the switch housing did you use the crappy cheap
one $19 or the good one $50.

I just finished modifying my housing and disc as per the article. Have to bring my soldering gun home tomorrow to finish it up. I’ll let you know how it works. To answer your question, I really don’t remember but I’m a cheap SOB so probably the cheap one. Lesson learned. Thanks

Please excuse the intrusion here, but it seems the perfect opportunity to mention a related issue. When I put my truck together I used what I think was an early 70's repo, or maybe an NOS harness, not sure , but my result is the reverse problem of the switch being too easy to move. It doesn't drag on the steering wheel, but I would like it to be a bit more positive as to seeking the detents. Is there a way to make it more positive?

I bought two original used light switch body’s and have never regretted it, so much of the reproduction stuff is just plain junk

I don't know about yours but my light switch will only go together one way. The disc will only go in the housing one way and the housing will only go on the end of the column one way.
