1937 RHD Sedan Dual Exhausts

I have assembled a 1937 RHD Sedan rolling chassis and am ready to do the exhaust before the body goes on. A 1939 24 stud stock engine is being reconditioned to plant into it.

Purely for the sound I want to run dual exhausts. Oh yeah...

There is currently a mock up 21 stud engine sitting in the chassis and I am struggling to see how I can run a pipe from the RHS stock manifold down past the steering box, clutch pedal and starter motor.

The RHS stock manifold flange is between the front and middle exhaust ports and exits the manifold at about 45 degrees - very close to the steering box.

The LHS stock manifold flange is also between the front and middle exhaust ports and exits the manifold directly downwards. There is plenty of room on the LHS.

Anyone got photos of what they have done? Thanks.

It's always tight that RH side in RHD. There are different styles of manifold depending on the year. Like 8BA for example will exit forwards at the front. 32-36 exit in line with the front ex port. There are other configurations....Start hunting, enjoy

50 merc in our 32 with 37 cross steering , used stock 50 merc manifolds on rh side and cut off cross over at the front of exhaust manifold . Sorry can’t remember what LH side was but dont think it was 50 merc. i know these manifold are not plentiful but hopefully will give something to think about.

Brian, are the manifolds interchangeable across a range of years? I have only played with 37 to 39 range.

Thanks my4dv8, the LHS can stay with the stock manifold as there is plenty of room. I will hunt for a different RHS manifold that will allow the pipe to exit further away from the steering box.

FlatheadEric, what does using a 37-41 LH manifold on the right side look like? That would move the outlet between the middle and rear port facing downward. Does that clear the steering box and column?

Eric... I believe exhaust manifolds interchange from year to year. This is on a ‘51 Shoebox and exits way to the rear. RHS. Available at Shoebox-Central.

They do interchange year to year, but not side to side.

Oops, my bad. I should have gone out to the shop to check it out before I posted earlier.

Yep LH And RH have ports bolts on different angles.
