luggage rack

Hello to all.
I was looking for some info about putting a luggage rack on my 31 Victoria
Does it need to have any special brackets for it to fit with the spare on the there?
I have a fellow who is selling one and he says the instructions say it's only for the 2 door sedan and the touring.

Thanks for any help.

Stay safe, PaulB

Re: luggage rack

My luggage rack fits both my 28 Coupe and 29 Tudor as they are the same spacing and bolt pattern. However, when the rack is on the 28 Coupe, I could not remove the spare tire as it rode too low and the rack interfered. No issues on the 29 Tudor.

Re: luggage rack

With spare on 30 Coupe needed to install bracket extensions, to clear tire.

There are brackets that are thicker , so if a heavy load in trunk go for more robust ones.

On my 4 door I opted for the extensions and I still cannot get the spare tire off without removing the rack. One of the guys in the club added about 2" and then it worked. But they need to be really beefed up thickness wise due to the trunk being out so far. I am going to use the 29 version as I think it sits further out normally. I have the aftermarket chrome version right now.

Mac's has the only luggage rack I have seen listed specifically for the Victoria. https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_m...-victoria.html You may need the extenders to clear the spare tire. Sorry, the link does not seem to be working. Rack part #28-22144-1, heavy duty extenders part #28-857767-1

I don't know what the deference of the racks are between the different Model A models (Sedan, coupe, Vicky) except for maybe the slant of the back.

To me a trunk looks out of place on a coupe, sort of hangs out in space.

I have the extensions on my Tudor and have no problem with the spare tire, other than the lugnuts are harder to get at.

Here is how it was done on a prior owned SW sedan. The added diag .braces were made from emt conduit to help support the extra oversized trunk weight.

I like the extra bracing. I went another route the rubber mounted the trunk to my spare. I may add the braces, sometimes I have some weight in the trunk.

With your Victoria's rear mounted spare, you will need the trunk rack extension brackets. See Bratton's #25171.
There are special brackets for a Victoria with side mount spare tires. See picture of my Victoria's original trunk rack mounting bracket.
