Vinyl seats

From the information I've found, vinyl wasn't an option on closed cars in 1939. If my coupe has it, should I believe it to be a re-upholstery job, or does someone know about closed vinyl cars?

My limited rememberance is that closed cars had fabric of one kind or another. I doubt it but you might'a greased the palm or twisted the arm and paid more for leather. But no other choices. Non-leather in a closed car is not factory.

My '36 Phaeton (open car) has something that is not leather and I'm okay with it but it's not correct.

I had a 39 deluxe coupe that had the original leather option.
I think that originally only the backrest and seat cushions were genuine leather.
The remainder was leatherette dyed to match the leather.
Had a nice original 39 std fordor sedan which was the same.
Also the door panels in that were artificial leather.

Post a picture, but I think it would be fairly easy to tell if upholstery looks 80 years old...
