Yes they had manny. Check the lube chart in the reference book.

I think 39 and 40 are the same.

I have been told; Don't grease the fittings on the rear end bells that lube the wheel bearings as the grease will get on your brakes.

You were advised correctly! Those fittings were eliminated for that very reason in 1940 production.

If I recall correctly there are 16.
Tie rod ends (4).
Spindle pin bushings - two per side (4)
Shift lever arms near top of column under hood (1)
Universal joint (1)
Transmission shaft (2)
Clutch activating lever (1)
Clutch pedal (1)
Brake pedal (1)
Torque tube center bearing (1)

If you have the early design sway bar, some of the swivels had a grease fitting. That would add two...

Did I miss any guys?

I don't have a copy of a 39 lube chart, but the 40 one should give you an idea of where to look and what to use.

Don't over grease the torque tube center bearing. 1 to 2 pull of the trigger will work. The OEM bearing looks like this. Grease fitting is in line with the opening in the rubber casing.

Thanks for your response.

The rear end bells are the rear axle housings from the center "banjo" section to the rear wheels.

I seem to recall that same warning about the transmission shaft. Could get grease on the clutch. Am I remembering correctly?

Kube: Your memory is good, you got them all. (I just did my car last week, using a similar list you posted on the V8 Club forum a couple years ago) Your list is easier to read and follow than the original lube chart.
