removing distrubutor shaft Is there a way to remove the distributor shaft without messing up the timing? I am thinking of replacing my head gasket.

Re: removing distrubutor shaft The distributor and shaft will only go in one way so yes you can remove it without messing up the timing.

Re: removing distrubutor shaft Loosening the distributor cam screw and moving the distributor cam will get the engine out of time

IMHO, if you are up to tackling replacing a head gasket, the least of your worries should be disturbing the timing. So many people fret over the timing for no good reason. Resetting the timing is so simple a job compared to removing and replacing the cylinder head. But, yes, so long as you do not loosen the cam in the distributor, you won't change the timing. As others have said, it goes back in only one way because of the offset slot in the shaft. |
Re: removing distrubutor shaft Frank has a 33, i am not familiar with that dizzy, do they still use the same cam screw set up as the A ?

Re: removing distrubutor shaft I believe that the model B distributor cam is the only one made today . The B distributor cam has a better profile and works good on the model A distributor
