1936 ford series 68-radio antenna-please help!
 

I have a 1936 ford series 68 4 door convertible.
The radio has had a quality rebuild but radio sound is
faint bc of weak antenna. I need to install a larger antenna
under the fender.

Please advise me--where do i purchase the above antenna
to place under the fender?

What side fender shall i use--right or left?

What materials should i use to install antenna under fender?

This 1936 ford series 68 is a show car---all original

original picture shows left side under running board. I also hear they do not work well. Looking forward to your reporting back.

Isn't another option to insulate the spare wheel and cover from the body and use that as an antenna? That location is higher off of the ground than under the running board, which must aid in the reception....

I once had a similar issue. I purchased an everyday telescoping car antenna the mounts to a flat surface. I drilled the needed hole in the first (front) bracket and mounted the antenna there. The next bracket I drilled a hole there and installed a round rubber insulator for the antenna. Then drilled a hole in the body in front of the rear attachment of the front fender to access the interior. Ford offered an under the right running board in addition to the chicken wire in the roof.

I had a similar problem with an antenna for my 1934 cabriolet.
Originally there were 2 options, spare wheel or under the running board.
I decided on another way that has proved very successful.
I ran a soft multi strand copper plastic sheathed cable down from the radio and along inside the door sill and up to the top side of the wooden hood bows under the top material
The result is a completely hidden antenna and very efficient.

If you already have a spare tire mount antenna, I would suggest looking it over for any problem areas such as a cracked or missing insulator. also check the electrical continuity of the wire from the radio to the spare tire mount.

There is also a trimming condenser in the radio , the adjustment of that can make the difference between only one close station and many far stations
It’s interesting, my friend has a 1936 Packard convertible and one of the running board antenna pictures is the same as Fords
The running board antennas were for trunk model convertible sedans
