1941 ford truck serial/vin number

I just bought a "tow truck" at a local auction. It came with a title but the numbers on the title are not even close to those on the frame and transmission. The frame numbers have a BB almost stamped over the 18 6679762Y. The transmission number is 18 6679762Y. I guess my question is does the BB mean anything? I'm going to try to get a new title from the junk yard or talk to the dmv.
The truck frame has been bobbed for the winch setup. The of the wheels are 17" 1 ton pickup wheels. One is a truck wheel.

BB is a big truck pre designation, 18 for cars you have correct numbers on the truck depending on what state you are in is how much hassle you are going to have. will the local auction give you a bill of sale? what are the numbers on the title?

The vin listed on title is 6705939. If I can get a new title or the number changed should I use the BB along with the rest of the vin?

I would say use what came with it or you will have a big headache. You could always cancel the auction because of the discreptancy.

If the wheels are indeed 17" and have clips for hubcaps they are from a 122" wb 'tonner'. A tonner is a Y designation, not BB. 20" truck wheels from the AA era will interchange as will BB wheels up to 1933. Before you start enter the title world, you should measure the wheelbase. The BB trucks were 131 or 157" wb. As stated, the tonner is 122". Titles can be a deal breaker and can involve years of frustration. Be careful what you do. Some pics when you can would be really helpful and FUN to see.

You don’t say what state you are trying to license the vehicle, in some states are easier than others and some are a pain.

look up the serial number on van pelts website to see what year it is in, as said before what state you are in will make it easier/harder to fix. yes you should attemp to correct the title, makes it a lot easier to sell

I live in Utah. I know they allow a builders title for old cars. I think place to start is with the auction people and go from there. Will try to get a couple pictures posted and measure the wheelbase today. But there is agreement that the BB is part of the vin?

Just a quick note to put this issue to bed. Finally got a callback from the salvage yard that had the auction. She told me that was the title they had and was not their problem. LOL. So went to DMV and the lady gave me the form so I can have a sheriff or highway patrolman verify the vin number and get it corrected on the title. I think I lucked out. If they come through here are two pics of my latest prize.
