Dimensions of hood edge protektor Hallo und guten Morgen.
I am just sewing the protector-corners made of leather for the rear end of the lower engine hood. Can someone please tell me the size? |

The first two photos are an original AA truck with original rear hood corners. First photo is the outside, and second photo is inside the hood where the seam goes. The stitching is NOT exposed to the outside after installation. Both straight edges are 1 1/2"-1 5/8". The diagonal from the corner of the two straight edges measures 2". Use a tubular rivet with small washer upset on the inside of the hood. Sewing a pair of these should not be difficult. Use the thinnest leather you can find, so that it bends easily. Maybe cut some leather out of an old handbag?
The last two photos are new hood corners from Snyders, with rivets, washer, and instructions. See the small indent in the middle of the diagonal? When installed, the indent creates a nice rounded edge at the edge of the hood. Color is black. |

Good evening Mike and special thanks for your helpful and very detailed informations!
Unfortunately I used leather that was too thick. Because of this, the seam cannot be turned backwards. But that's no problem. Maybe I'll do it again, it's not a lot of work. Fastened with a copper rivet. |
Re: Dimensions of hood edge protektor You might try and source some soft leather glove material, I've seen some very thin & flexible.

Re: Dimensions of hood edge protektor Werner: Your hood corners look very nice. No one will ever know they are not quite correct except you. mike
