If you decide to honor Bob Gregorie you can use this as an example.
Here's another good thread about the 40 Ford dash.

I tend to agree in that Gregorie got it right the first time.

What a great picture of a 1940 Ford Deluxe Dash and Interior.

The custom fan in me likes it. Was that wrapped or hydro-dipped

Re: 1940 dashboard

Thanks, the process is two colors of paint then clear. I used water base ppg. The first color is very light tan. Let it dry then spray a coat of dark walnut brown over the tan. While it is wet, lay a plastic shopping bag directly on the wet paint, then lift it off. Repeat the plastic bag application until you like it. I started with a sample part. With water base paint you can clean off the dark paint before it dries and try again.

What are your plans for the window garnish moldings, the same grain or a contrasting color?

Sounds like a good graining technique.

Did 40 Fords come with pass. side door armrests as an option?

When someone restored my convertible in the '70's they painted the dash woodgrain. It reminds me of an old console radio.

Jim, they were optional.

Kube: Were they also available for both sides on a standard as mine has both.

Ya know, that was something I could find no documentation on while doing my research.
While common sense might suggest they were optional, if you're seeking points on a judged concourse, I'd suggest you do not install them.

That looks great! I've heard of that method of painting before but you really did some nice work.
