I’ve been running a completely stock distributor in my A for 53 years. Never had an issue with points and condenser. I keep the cam lubricated and check the point gap before each club tour. Back when these cars were new, they were driven tens of millions of miles with stock distributors. It’s hard to improve such a simple and reliable design.

I have had good luck with the original style of points. You have to keep the cam lubricated and the points properly adjusted. However, with points there will be a buildup on one of the contacts that should be filed off to get a good setting. With the Model A original style of rotating one contact, the points will not mesh properly without filing. Also, I set the points at 0.022 and let them wear and close up to the optimum setting of 0.020. Ed

The build up is caused by not having the proper value capacitor.
