A400 driver seat removal

Hi, Is there any way of getting the driver's seat out of an A400 without loosening up the body and removing the splash aprons?

Thanks, Lee

What type of seat adjustment do you have? Is there a handle near the floor in the middle of the drivers seat or a rod that slides through brackets on the bottom of the seat and floor allowing the seat to tip up?

The ones on my Deluxe Phaeton and Victoria are easily removed without doing anything major. The seats are the same style or similar) to the 400A. My 400A is a few miles away so I can't take pictures. It almost sounds like you may not have an original type of seat attachment

Re: A400 driver seat removal

This has the handle in the middle of the front seat. It may have been used only on the A-400 as they are all late 1931's. I need to get it to slide off the track. I restored the car myself about 25 years ago and I don't remember how I got it on the sliding track. The seat needs to be removed in order to have the leather sewed again. I sure don't feel like raising the body and removing the splash apron in order to remove the nuts from the side of the seat bracket as the bolts under the body may be carriage bolts which are turning. I removed the handle and also the large spring from the rear but it still won't come loose from the track. I know that it must slide off somehow, because the floor pan is black and the track is Bronson Yellow.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am sure it is an original seat adjustment mechanism. It has won the Fine Point MARC of Excellence Award and the MAFCA fine point Award of Excellence and it never lost points for the seat mechanism. It is of course different from the one on my Victoria. I guess I'll go back to the 90 degree garage and sweat some more trying to figure it out.

I don't have my 400 anymore but
Won't the slides disengage from each other if moved all way to the front?
Not sure if the back needs to be up or folded
I know the steering wheel is the issue

unscrew the adjustment bracket from the floor they are just wood screws and slide the seat forward. it will slide right off the end of the lower slides. if they there are original lower slides that no one has messed with, the bolts are carriage bolts that are captured in place by some small tin plates with four nails in each. if someone has removed the plates the three outside bolts can drop down on top of the splash apron.

I'd like to see pictures once you get it figured out. I thought the late 1931 190A and the 400A had the same front seats.

Mike you are correct the late seat frames are the same, along with the mounting.

Then all he has to do is unhook the spring and slide the seat out.

the adjustment racket is bent on the end and it will not let it come out of the lower female bracket very easily. I have seen some rackets that someone had cut off the end
