armature lathe In wandering on ebay I see a tru-cut armature lathe with a reasonable price, not my listing, I have 2 and don't need more, it is missing motor bracket but that is simple, the important parts look to be there ---I remember someone posting that they wanted rebuilding machinery to play--
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-STAR...f671ea&vxp=mtr the heading makes it obscure for someone looking for one of these ---they work pretty good, I have done everything from sewing machine motor to golf cart motor on mine |
Re: armature lathe I've got one in one of my sheds. Mine has an electric motor. I think that it is missing the belt. I would sell or trade it but it would be heavy to ship and worth more than the forty dollars that the one on eBay is listed for.

Re: armature lathe I use my South Bend lathe to do armatures. If someone needs this, I hope they get it, but I kind of have a distaste for them, only because too many people get carried away with cutting down commutators. Seems just because they are working on a motor or generator they think the commutator must be cut, which it rarely needs.

Re: armature lathe I would only cut a commutator that was obviously out of round.

That is what they are for. They also undercut the mica. A very handy tool to have. |
Re: armature lathe yes a simple machine lathe will work. And unless it was out of round as suggested, no reason to cut them., All you need to do is sand with some fine emery cloth.

Most general electric motor rewind places bought regular lathes with accessories rather than purpose built armature lathes. If you search the net you can find old South Bend catalogs and manuals as .pdf's. Also the Lejay manual. The armature accessories can be built or often gunsmiths or model makers buy the lathes and will sell you the armature stuff cheap. |
