Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

I understand that it is a strong acid base liquid with a heavy specific gravity rating. Newc

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

Tetra-bromo-ethane, specific gravity 2.95, dyed red with durant scarlet dye is the original liquid. Very corrosive, and I think carcinogenic. No alternative; that specific gravity is crucial for accuracy of the gauge

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

How about same question for the red temperature gauge fluid?

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

Dunno...the temp units are sealed; weren't meant to be serviced, unlike the hydrostatic fuel gauges, where service bulletins covered the R&M of them

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

If you look in my MISC folder of pictures, I have a bottle of the actual Ford red liquid. If you lived close enough to me to drive here I could help you, but this substance is unfortunately illegal to ship for obvious reasons.
Good luck, maybe someone down there has some.

Here is on the left original 32-35 Ford gas gauge fluid that I still have. Years ago I found a NOS bottle just like "deuce roadster" has. On the right is what the vendors sold in the air line kit (which fades over time).

I forget the name BUT There was a company that supplied Duesenburg parts that sold the red gauge liquid and it doesn't fade. It wasn't cheap either.....after shipping it was close to $45 for a small bottle like posted above in Sheldon's post. I will look and see IF i can find the receipt. Classic & Exotic "Maybe"????

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

I found a guy on an Auburn site that has fluid that he says doesn't fade. It's $15 per vial and $8 shipping.

Curt Schulze, call him on 715-262-3183, he is in Prescott WI

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

I bought the red fluid from Classic & Exotic. It faded after a couple of years and I don't expose my car to sunlight very often - keep it in a garage.

Re: red liquid fuel gauge?

hmmm. I think I'll cut a half-inch strip off of a red-in-color sheet of blank paper, roll it up and place it in the glass tube. . . . . . keep track of the trip odometer.

I am quite concerned about the skull&Crossbones warning; shipping restriction?

What is the reason others have stopped selling it? Corrosive to everything but the glass

fuel gauge. I would get in contact, if possible, with current V8ers that use it.

Thank you, Glenn -

Pat

Apparently FoMoCo had a patent on their original. Obviously it was physically safe to use.
