Horn Trouble
 

I am reinstalling my Horn. I wired it as I read as shown below. The problem I am having when I install the 2 wires ,1 wire on each tab the wire the goes to the light switch is hot and horn is stuck on

The light switch connection should go to ground. The power is to the horn and pushing the horn button provides the ground. Reverse the wires.

What I don't understand is if I hook both wires as shown under there tabs doesn't that cause the wire going to the light switch become hot, It appears that the bar that brass holder that holds both wires on the horn is all 1 piece

The two brass clips are insulated from each other, even though they may appear to be one piece/
The wire going into the light switch should be hot at all times until the horn button is pushed and grounds it.

Chief, you are reading the voltage thru the winding's of the horn motor.

If you have an Early 1928 Horn, It will look different as to the wire hook up as you show in the picture. It has two standing post`s and there are two types of them also.. They still work the same as all the others if hooked up correctly..

As Tom mentioned they are supposed to be insulated. One tab on top of rectangular insulator then a washer then the other tab.

Do you have the colored wiring diagram that appears here often?

On the cutout there is a yellow wire with the voltage on it that goes to the horn. It travels through the terminal to a brush, through the arm to the other brush and then back to the terminal. It exits the horn and goes to the middle of the light bail up the light switch rod to the horn button and when pressed the horn button goes to ground.

So the voltage goes to the horn then to the light bail, then to the horn switch. If everything is good the horn does not blow and the wires do not get hot. When the button is pressed, the voltage goes to ground, completing the circuit and horn should blow.
