39 front fender aprons

When fitting my new (Drake) aprons, I see they do not have a piece on lower front for a spring mount to frame like my old ones. One has two holes in this location and the other has none. Are these mounts correct for a 39 and does anyone have a pic. of how they look? Thanks, Mark

Mark,
Sometime during '39 production that little bracket near the front - bottom was eliminated. The next "design" of these panels had the holes for those brackets but again, no brackets.
The last design had the holes eliminated.
You can use the Drake panels on your '39. You may want to trial fit them first. I've never got a set from him that fit quite correctly "out of the box".

By the way, there was never any "spring" at that forward bracket - just a bolt, washer and nut. Oh, and a piece of anti-squeak fabric between the bracket and frame.

Thanks Mike, you are correct as usual as my 39 parts car has the holes but no brackets. I may fab brackets for these aprons as it seems they would give added support for front fenders. The spring mount on my " original " ones are similar to the radiator mount.

Yep, just a little "L" bracket that was spot welded through those two holes in the apron.
When Ford started to install that cross brace between the front fenders, there was no longer a need for those small brackets.
Plus, the large brace between the fenders allowed the entire front clip to "float" a little.
The inner panels I have had with those small braces were nearly always cracked in that area. That tells me there was a lot of stress in that area.
