Air Cleaner ID 46 to 48??
 

Have 2 air cleaners removed from 59a engines.
LHS is off 46 Mercury? RHS is off spare engine maybe 49 engine?
Confirmation ID is appreciated.

I'm NO 46,7,8 expert but I believe the right one and that's based on the attached picture of a 46 Tudor I once owned

Thanks for that as I have 2 to chose from just thought it would be good to have the correct one mounted on a 59a engine for a 46 Mercury.

SORRY, forgot to clarify, that's a 46 FORD not a Mercury

Yea but both fitted with 59a engine so would think air cleaner would be the same as same carbs in use.
50's Mercurys I believe are different carb set up to Ford.

Again, not an "Expert" BUT I am currently working on a 39 Merc and I am "STILL" astounded at just "HOW" different the Mercury is from a Ford in "almost" every detail. SO?????

So consensus suggests the one on the right to be the correct one for 1946. Thanks.

I can't speak for USA cars, but this is the Oil Bath Cleaner on an Australian 1946 Ford. This is the same type that was on my Australian assembled 1946 Mercury Sedan.

This looks the same as the LHS one which was the one on the car when I purchased it, 46 Merc.

This is the cleaner on my '46 Ford Super Deluxe. Not sure if it was original, as PO's may have changed it out, but it looks like what is in the parts book

The decal on it alone presuming it is original suggests it is 52 and later

Not sure if decal is original, but that was my thoughts,
LHS being the original type for the 46 and as said RHS a later one.

The left hand one which I call the "space ship" type is what I have on mine. I got it at a swap-meet.I think it is Canadian in origin, maybe Mercury version and for a 46 but I like the look of it. I've seen so many different types on 46/48 Fords I wouldn't know what would be "correct". Use the one that "spins your wheels" Phil.
