Oil pump removal I’ve been going over some things on a 31 roadster I just got. I dropped the oil pan to check for sludge - not too bad, a little on the bottom. It’s been a few years since I removed the pan on an A, but I remember the oil pump coming out with the pan. This one’s bolted on the side of the engine, I’m pretty sure this is incorrect. Should I reinstall the pan, remove the bolt and put in a plug? What are the ramifications of leaving it like this?

Re: Oil pump removal Yes, i would remove the bolt and install a plug. Unfortunately if it really is a bolt they more than likely screwed up the threads in the block as they are/were ⅛" pipe thread.

Re: Oil pump removal Wonder if previous owner forgot to take the bolt out and reinstall the screw plug.
The screw plug https://www.brattons.com/plug-for-va...-manifold.html When you took off was pan, was/is there a large spring on the bottom of the pump? When you put the pan on, the spring holds the pump up into the motor. The spring https://www.brattons.com/oil-pump-retainer-spring.html |
