49 Ford front glass Looking for any tips on installing the two piece windshield that has the stainless trim. It looks very difficult! Thanks in advance. Mike

Re: 49 Ford front glass Not hard. Install rubber on glass with string to pull and final install of rubber. Stainless trim goes on after install of glass.

Re: 49 Ford front glass I think "mrtexas" is right. I did this in 1959 to my '51 and the only thing I remember was that it was easier than I thought it would be. The ones I usually remember are the ones that really fought me.

Re: 49 Ford front glass I put the trim on before and it was not easy. I thenk there are two kinds of trim and mine was the single lip. You will need two people to set the windshield in the opening and maintain the angle or the trim slips out.

Re: 49 Ford front glass When i put the windshield in my 49 , instructions said to put the stainless trim in first. I had two helpers and it was still a pain. We used masking tape to hold everything in place until we were ready to install it. Just make sure you have a couple of helpers.

Re: 49 Ford front glass we did our '41. installed gasket on the glass, installed with me on the inside pushing and someone on outside pulling the string SLOWLY. soap the gasket and rope. after installation make sure stainless is squeeky clean. I put a coat of grease on the flange that fits into the gasket. I believe I started at the top corner, worked down and pushed it into the rubber, then across top and bottom. getting the glass thru the pass side into place was a challenge. . get d.s fully against the A pillar and keep pushing it to the drivers side . it will fit but was a job.

Re: 49 Ford front glass Installed the windshield this morning. installed the gasket and stainless trim before installing the windshield, used masking tape to hold everything together. Mixed dawn and water in a spray bottle and sprayed liberally. Had two people on the outside pushing and holding everything in place. Me inside pulling the cord. Wasn't easy but got it in. Have one corner of stainless that popped out of the grove. That corner doesn't want to stay in but I haven't given up yet. Thanks to all for the advice. Mike
