42-47 pickup bed

My self and a friend need a bed for our Fords. Which manufacturer should we buy our bed from? Midwestern Ford, Macs, etc.

I bought new sides from midwest Ford for my 46 and they both have bows just about where the middle brace is located. Not what I had hoped for given the price plus shipping ! Might want to check out mac hils products and see if his are flat.

I have a very nice 42-47 1/2 ton bed for sale. The bed is complete w/a good tailgate. The fenders are not correct, they look like 35-37.

Hopefully someone will post the name of a Mfg. in I believe MO. that is an OEM supplier. Priced a '37 Ford p/up bed, reasonable, made in USA, price included crating for common carrier delivery. Many Fordbarners recommended the company. Just can't think of the name of it.

My guess would be Mac Hils, I have never used them, but always saw good reviews.

Have used Mac Hils products and used to be a dealer for them and the products are top of the line!

Re: 42-47 pickup bed

I just got an email from Mack Hils and they have 6 1/2 foot beds but no 8 foot beds. I wonder if a 6 1/2 could be stretched to an 8 foot?

Re: 42-47 pickup bed

Are you working on a one ton that you need an 8 foot bed?

Are you sure that they are 35-37 fenders? I am looking a set for a 36 pickup.

WE are finding out that the 8 foot bed was not reproduced.

The tonners were built for heavy hauling jobs. Most that I have seen have been pretty rough. I have a couple beds around here, but in the rust belt a good one would be even harder to find. What year tonner just so we know what he's looking for. On drives through out of the way places I NEVER stop scanning the driveways and side yards for utility trailers made from truck beds. I have found three good ones that way. One of them was a craigslist find in dry wheat country.

I know the fenders are not '41 and later, the shape of the fender appears to be similar to '35-'37, however, they could be after-market generic trailer fenders. I have pix of the bed and fenders, however, I am having problems getting the pix to load onto the "Barn" site.

The one ton is 42-47 for sure. He was wondering if a 48 bed would work

Yes I have a 48 bed on one of my beater 47 tonners. Everything lines up and is exactly the same, except for the fenders and their bolts. Big problem is finding the old teardrop tonner fenders. If you had some and a 48 bed, it would just be grind and fill and re-drill as the inner fenderwell 'tub' is the same along with be bedside stampings.

Re: 42-47 pickup bed

I think that 8 foot bed may be the same through 1960.

Re: 42-47 pickup bed

Ford used two pickup box styles, a short and a longer "express" box, which has three stake pockets instead of two, on the regular box. My book says the long box is 118". I assume the longer box was on the ton trucks..
