Wards Spark Plugs.
 

A while back I was giving a Model A engine that had Wards "Supreme Quality" spark plugs in it.

They are take-a-part design similar to Champion 3X plugs. Does anyone know how they compare to 3X plugs, heat range wise? They are #8s.

After cleaning them, I installed them in my engine and was impresses how good it ran. I put the 3X plugs back in because I don't know how hot the Wards are.

I have no idea what heat range the Wards plugs are but you can get a feeling in two ways. Compare the length of the unsupported insulator on the inside of the plug with the 3X plugs. If it is longer they are hotter, if shorter they are colder. Plus you can run the plugs. If the insulator is white or light tan they have the right heat range. Black with carbon they are too cold. If the electrodes are melting they are too hot.

By the way, the vertical gap is designed to allow raw gasoline to drip away to reduce the change of flooding the plugs.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I think you have a real treasure there...even more so that you have a functional set of four. That's awesome!

nkaminar, the insulator and electrode are nothing like the Champion (no the insulator is not broken off) so hard to compare. I didn't really run it long enouph to get a good reading. I was just curious what heat range they would compare to if someone know.

I may just "save" for show.
