Starter motor overhaul

The copper button on my starter motor is quite pitted so I intend to replace it....any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated...many thanks Vic

file it down some you need a high wattage soldering iron, I use a 600 watt one, a torch will burn the insulators, a low wattage iron will not get the heat high fast enough, insulation will smoke some ---even char

In my specs I have ---11/32 -- to 3/8 high, if it cleans up in that range don't worry ---you don't need to eliminate all the pits
