Uncommon '34 clock

Thought I'd share what I recently found.Authorized accessory '34 glove box clock,by Sandoz.Don't think there are many out there.Just had it serviced and a NOS dial(which I had) put on.Its missing the bezel and lens(crystal). The jeweler scotch taped this lens on to protect it.Maybe some one on here might have one.I know its a needle in a haystack.

Re: Uncommon '34 clock

Probably in the same category as the New Haven 1940 electric clock. I wonder, are you supposed to take a hole saw to the glove box door or was there a separate part # door for this clock? If so, the door would be equally as scarce.

As a side note, I have a 33 Standard phaeton (213 made according to V8 club 33-34 book). 2 previous owners ago was a guy who restored 33-34 radios so, he put one in his car. I really don't like the thing and wish he had never done that as well as adding cowl lamps. If I ever restore the car, the cowl lights and radio will go but I personally like the looks of the stock glove box door. The running gear, steering, fuel system and brakes are all restored but the body is untouched, including the original top so I use the car as is for now but if the top goes away I will be forced to do something and will put the whole car back to original. If he had just installed a clock like this, it would be cool.

Re: Uncommon '34 clock

I believe the clock was introduced in '34 along with the mirror clock. The regular glove box door was bored out to accept the clock. In one of Sorensens ford books he showed a factory photo with regular door with the clock in it. There was also another door with the clock that had a lock instead of a knob.I have seen 2 of those but I think that was an aftermarket item(locking glove box door).I have had an original box that the clock came in when bought over the counter. The graphics just show the plain door with the knob.Printed on that box was "Glove Compartment Watch"

I would love to see a picture of the box (glove compartment watch )
I have on in my 33 roadster. My watch is in a very flat glove box door and has a lock.

Re: Uncommon '34 clock

Sandoz made clocks for other cars. Might be possible to find a junk clock that had the correct size bezel.

My late brother was a clock and watch repair person and the glass lenses and bezels are available in MANY sizes and shapes for old and new clocks and watches.
I have a NOS door with a lock and key and it doesn't look after market.

Easier said than done.My watch guy went thru hundreds of bezels and lenses. No match so far.I will come up with one eventually I hope.

Watch for the Sandoz clocks on Ebay. Non working ones come up frequently. Most usually have the bezel (that is unique to the Sandoz clocks) and some still have the spacer also. Your best chance to find the parts I believe is bidding on one of these.

Senior moment. Forgot you were looking for a glove box clock not a mirror clock.

Curiosity: why does it say "8 days" on the clock face?

Re: Uncommon '34 clock

If the clock is would fully it should run for 8 days without winding again. It was unusual for a clock to run for 8 days so it was a selling point.

I do believe this is the holy grail of Early Ford factory accessories.. in my opinion at least. Due to the rarity of them I dont know the current values... but seven years ago I sold a NOS one (that I didnt want to sell or have advertised for sale) for a sum that allowed me to buy a complete running driving Model A ford.
