Upper door seals for Murray town sedan I am trying to figure out if the 1930 Murray Town Sedan used upper door seals. If so, where do they attach too?
|
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Don't know about the '30, but on my '31 I glued glued them in, holding them up with the window, then put in the side rails.
|
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Seals were not used atop the doors. Inside the car, a wind-lace molding was used to seal the vertical gaps and gaps along the tops of the doors against drafts. The bottoms of the doors have a rubber seal.

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan What sealed the lower window opening to the glass or did water just run down the pane and I to the door?

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan I think it is these you are looking for?
The Murray Body uses these for all four doors. The Briggs uses two for front doors only. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword The Briggs uses these for the rear doors. I included them for the picture so you could see what they look like. The front ones look the same but longer. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...L-4-DOOR-FRONT They attach with screws to the door. You will have to remove the glass to install. |
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan My mistake, was thinking of the window seals, it's hell getting old.
|
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Yes I have these, does anyone have a picture of them installed. My doors do not have a wood strip below the window opening to screw to. My wood crosspiece is lower towards the middle of the door

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Here is a picture of my Briggs Town Sedan left rear door. Your Murray should be same (or similar). You will have to remove the glass and bracing to get to it.
Fronts same deal. https://live.staticflickr.com/801/41...55931951_z.jpg |

Here is a picture of my Murray door and I do not have the wood piece below window opening to attach the metal strip of the seal

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Hmmm, maybe someone else will chime in. I'm not that familiar with the Murray bodies.

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Anyone have a picture of Murray Door without the door panel on?

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan We own a Murrays, too. And our car misses the upper door seals as well. I juts bought them at Snyders and plan to install them next winter time.
But up to now, in the last 6 years of ownership I only removed the front door panels due to smaller repairs. The front door wood looks similar to the Briggs picture above. And the rear doors i did not open yet, but I can see the top wood under the window frame similar to the front doors. So you are missing one piece of wood, probably. good luck Gerald from Germany |
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan If you want, I can post my opened passenger front door pictures

Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Oh sorry...I just went to my car and saw that you are right. Situation same as yours, wood is only inside the glass.
How to assemble the upper door seal is a good question. |
Re: Upper door seals for Murray town sedan Murray 4 doors were like slant 4 doors in this area. The seal is the lip on the rubber that holds the glass in the lower metal channel. Briggs cars used what is pictured earlier in this thread for all 4 doors. These two body companies tackled this in very different ways.

You are correct about the lip, I finally sourced some correct window riser channels with the lip. They seal the window against the door very nice.
