What year is this serial number

I came across a Ford Delivery Van project with a 4 cylinder engine for sale.
The serial number is 5217966 and the title says it's a 1934. Is that a 1934 serial number?

For early Ford serial numbers (VIN) you can always check the VanPelt Sales web site.

Re: What year is this serial number

Apparently Vanpelt doesn't list the 4 cylinder serial numbers.

GPierce,

That is likely a 1934 S/N. The 4-cylinder serial numbers started with 5,189,491 in 1934. The 4 cyl engine was discontinued for trucks on March 1, 1934.

According to Vince's site it's June 1933. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABenginenumbers.htm

Buy that sucker if the price is right. Looks like a good start.

Thanks guys.
It's out of my price range, the owner turned down $10,000.

Re: What year is this serial number

I didn't even think about the B engines but they were numbered differently. You can find those listed on the link if you scroll down past all the A stuff. The number would have a B prefix on a car and a BB prefix on a truck. It should be June of 1933 according to that list. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABenginenumbers.htm

If it has a 18 prefix then it is a V8 frame with a model B engine and it would be a 1934. A lot of years have gone by so many changes could have happened.

Where are you finding the serial number? On the frame near the cowl but readable without removing anything?

Re: What year is this serial number

Only on the title.

I have not personally seen this car. When I posted the original question I was concerned about the the 34 title and what I thought was. 32 radiator shell. I didn't realize until I perused the link Rotorwrench posted that the 34 trucks used what appeared to be a32 shell.

Re: What year is this serial number

The hood and radiator shell say '33, not '34, which is consistent with the engine build date. (The issue is a bit confused by the dashes laying in the foreground as the one on top is '32 while the one beneath is '33-'34.)
