Reds Headers on 34 pickup I have a '34 pickup with original V-8. I want to put on a set of Red's Headers and their extensions. Just wondering if it's a bolt on operation or if anything has to be modified. Truck has the original steering box
Thanks |
Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup most of their stock applications are bolt in. a quick email or call and you'll get your answer.

Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup You can also email, I had a question about the Reds on my ‘41 and they got back to me by the next day.

Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup Mikes 34 phaeton has reds headers with dual exhaust and smitty mufflers . The engine splash pans were on the shelf as they do not fit . The rest all fits and should be the same as your pickup .

Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup 3 Attachment(s)
The headers should fit, but that is just the front part of the exhaust - I'm not sure how well the "extensions" fit. Personally I do not like the "slip on" connections at the back of the headers (seems everybody just copied Sandy Belond from 70 years ago and didn't improve this aspect of his original designs).
The extensions may slip on once, but after you crank down on the u-bolts to attempt to get them to seal (and they will leak at these joints), just try getting them back off! I prefer to modify the ends of the headers and weld on actual 2-bolt flanges - such that I can bolt on the extensions and take the headers off when I need too. Usually I change the ends of the headers to direct the flow where I want it to go - via welding on whatever piece of mandrel bend I need (you can buy really nice mandrel bends at Jegs). This way, I complete the end of the header with a better flow location and flanges on the ends of them. Here is a set that I heavily modified for my 32 (they weren't from Red's, they were custom made by Havlir - but they were just cut-off pipes on the ends like Red's when I got them). In addition to the turn-downs and flanges, I added EGTs, O2 bungs, etc.. Yes - lots of work . . . definitely not a bolt on . . . but a much better end result. Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup The slip on connections are fine, and allow you to tweak the position of the extensions. I would not use a U-bolt, as they screw up the pipe for good, and you need to heat them with a torch to get them off. I use Donaldson Maxi-Grip bent bolt clamps on the roadster and 40, both with Red's headers and exhaust extensions. I have had the exhaust system off and on several times and they come apart easily and go right back together. I got the tip off on the Bent Bolt clamps here on the Barn about 10 years ago. Best thing I ever did for an exhaust system.

Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup 1 Attachment(s)
The headers fit fine on the '34 P/U I did but the extensions were not even close.
My local muffler shop did the whole system. |
Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup thanks for that tip

Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup 95476, Holy cow! That is one good looking truck. I'm debating the color combo for my '35. What color is that???
Thanks, Heard |
Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup The color is Ford Medium Sandalwood brand code 4065.
It is close to the '34 Ford cordoba grey but a bit different. It was a fun truck to build thanks to Stan White. |
Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup |
Re: Reds Headers on 34 pickup I should add that yes the headers themselves fit but the exhaust is many different segments with much bending and flattened areas .
The out end of the headers has a 2 bolt flange and looks to be done by reds ? Quite sure the pipes took some time to fab up . |
