59A dbl intake Valves 2 Attachment(s)
Purchased a 33 pickup with according to the previous owner a re-built engine.
Engine was missing some parts when I purchased it and I never heard it run. Have just done a compression test and found 1 cylinder at zero. The remainder from 100 to 135 lbs Have removed the heads, intake and base to check for any issues before going further. The zero compression # 4 cylinder appears to have a stuck valve which has been freed up. As you can see in the 1st picture this #4 cylinder valves look like they are both intake valves, not one of each. Would these valves work ?. Also in Picture #2 the top of valve springs have some sort of clip with a tab on top of the spring. All of the valve clips except this middle one are tight and the tab cannot be turned in either direction. the middle clip and tab is loose and sloppy. Would someone know what these clips do and should they all be tight ?. Thanks for any information you could share. |
Re: 59A dbl intake Valves Check to see if the valve is magnetic. If so, it probably should be replaced. Must have a broken valve guide on that loose on

Re: 59A dbl intake Valves It's funny how many different definitions of "rebuilt" there are. 8^)
Best of luck Jakno! |

Re: 59A dbl intake Valves those clips should be snug and not move around. weak, broken, or wrong spring? also, they sit up in a relief in the block so they can't fall out. perhaps not seated in the relief?

Re: 59A dbl intake Valves Will D,
you are right in that the #4 valves are the only ones replaced and the other original valves have FORD script on them. Also the other original valves for each cylinder, one valve has a smooth face the other valve for that piston is dished out. Will that affected anything ?. Thanks for your interest |
Re: 59A dbl intake Valves This might be a good block, but considering the conditions of the valve assy, I'd take the complete engine apart. No telling what you might find in the bearings and rings.

Re: 59A dbl intake Valves Thanks Mr. Ron. That's kinda what I've been thinking I need to do. Have a few more months of winter to work on it.
