28 rad shroud 2 Attachment(s)
My 29 came with an original rad shroud that is not installed and so far no issues with overheating so wonder do I really need to install it. Should I hold on to it in case or will the 4 blade be sufficient? I would like a Winfield high compression head and seems that these shrouds are in demand. Comments welcome

Re: 28 rad shroud Don’t sell it. Once it’s gone it’s gone. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
Also, a correct, properly working Model A cooling system, works best with the orginal designed two blade fan. Fan is only needed at idle and up to about 15 MPH. After that the natural movement of air as the car moves forward does the cooling. Engine side pans also help direct the cooling air around the engine. You might want to someday re-install shroud. Everything works together in a properly prepared cooling system. |
Re: 28 rad shroud Inspect the 4 blades carefully; we scraped off old paint and found cracks near the hub, ended up in the trash. WHN is correct, new repro fans are balanced pretty well and are aluminum, less stress on the water pump.

Re: 28 rad shroud I used a fan shroud and was very happy with the way it worked. I agree with duke36 in using a new aluminum fan instead of a four blade.

Re: 28 rad shroud I looked for nearly 2 years for an original fan shroud. Got a very good deal on it and installed it. Cools better in stop and go traffic and waiting at traffic lights.

Re: 28 rad shroud I put an aftermarket fan shroud on my '30. It really helps to suck the air through the radiator. Slow parade speed on the 4th of July and the needle stayed in the center of operating range.

Re: 28 rad shroud Has anyone had experience with installing the ‘28 shroud (original) with a reproduction radiator? The radiator in my 28 appears to be the low price version available from Mac’s. I’ve done a bunch of measuring and looks like the bottom tabs on the radiator are in the way- I’m curious if the tabs on an original or a Brassworks show quality radiator are in a different spot or orientation?
Thanks! |
Re: 28 rad shroud Keep it original and don't mess with the engineering, a shroud works great and it will add value to the authenticity of the car, once you sell it it's gone and you'll spend the money and wish you had the shroud back...…… just keep it mounted where it's supposed to be.

Re: 28 rad shroud My thoughts exactly. My goal is to get the car back to out of the factory and I just picked up the original shroud. Down the road I’d like to switch out the radiator to a show radiator and certainly wouldn’t do any alterations to the shroud, though I don’t mind making alterations to the repop radiator if not unsightly or obvious.

Re: 28 rad shroud Well, I ended up selling the car and kept the shroud.
