Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I need glass for my 39 PU, local shop quoted me $330 for doors and windshield. These guys include the rear window for about $20 less. Has anyone used Autoglassics? I'm repairing a driver only. Thanks.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? For only $20 on a $300 purchase I would support my local guy.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? When I replaced the windshield on my '39 p/u the guys on EBay were a little cheaper than the local knows what he's doing glass guy. Glad I went with him. Said the glass on EBay is of a much poorer quality, read China. JM2cents.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I've used Chris Blattie a couple of times '40/'41 Ford p/u's..reasonable price (well below $300 for the full set, at the time), very well packaged shipped to your house.
He's also on the HAMB [email protected] 406-690-6467 |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I used a local reputable glass company for a laminated door window. the edges were a little wavy and they had they old glass as a pattern. It was just cracked.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I'll email Chris Blattie and see what he has to say, thank you FHFD. The chief problem is that I have no first hand knowledge of the quality of work of either the locals or the online people. The primary advantage of going local is if there is a problem its easier to address in person. Other recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I can tell you that Chris Blattie does excellent work, he did the glass for my 48 F-1, very pleased!!

Be wary of him. He once had a good rep but lately his stuff is just shit. Look at the thread over on the HAMB with many people discussing his poor quality work. |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? Ditto for Chris Blattie.
Well done, packed in a foam filled OSB box, complete with handle. Took a Gennie Shifter in trade on one order! My home guy got his chance on the windshield for my 32. Screwed up, even with the old glass for a pattern. Close isn't good enough, IMO. |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I've used The Glass House for several 32 Ford projects and the fit has been excellent. I like him because he will temper the side and rear glass so no more cracked side windows.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? Dredging this back up, as there are multiple companies with the same name.
AVOID VINTAGE GLASS, LAWRENCEVILLE, GA.!!! Ordered and paid for glass in May, promised four weeks, didn't get it until end of July. First piece out of the box (the rear window) cut short by 1/4" and out of square. Sent him my original pattern and the replacement fit perfect. Only took two weeks. The door and rear quarter glass is as bad. Rights and lefts don't match, top edges are wavey, and corners mis-matched and not square. It's going back to him, in person, at Shades of the Past. Updates, good or bad, to follow. |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? 15 years ago I bought one side window and 2 wing windows from an outfit in WA that no longer ships. It was nice quality, nothing to rave about, and marginally packaged. When it came time for another side glass, I bought from a local that many in the EFV8 club use. It fit "OK", edges weren't real straight, price was same as I paid for the one from WA.
When it came time for another side window and a windshield, I bought from LMC. Very well boxed, very smooth straight edges, and perfect fit on both pieces. Yes, made in Taiwan, but by a major OEM supplier. |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? Unless you are going for concourse restoration correct, have tempered glass made. It will cost more $ but will NEVER CRACK (just explode into thousands of itty-bitty pieces). Too many people now do not understand that you will crack the glass by using it as a door closer pull. (Concourse correct you will want Sanders glass with the correct etched code).
If you need patterns I recently acquired a set of patterns for nearly everything 1928-early 1960's. I can make tracings at nominal cost. |
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? I'd second Carl on the tempered glass. I've have 4 closed deuces and haven't had a cracked glass since I started tempering the side and rear windows.
|
Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? One thing to keep in mind with tempered glass: Tempered glass is generally much thinner than laminated. Regular glass tape won't work, the thinner glass has to be glued into the track. The tempered glass will also rattle in the window run channels because they are made for laminated glass.

Re: Has anyone bought glass from these guys? In my area, it is a requirement that the glass be safety glass, and have the safety glass 'tattoo' on every window.
Its a favorite pastime for the police to pull over and ticket classic vehicles that don't have it. Does anyone know if LMC glass has the safety glass tattoos? Or other suppliers? (I'm working on a 1950 F47 (F1) which came original with Ford Safety Glass) Thanx Kirk |
