Oil pan vs tie rod clearance Have a Model A frame that I want to put in a Model B engine. I suspect that there may be some clearance issues with the tie rod hits the Model B oil pan.
Someone who might have experience with this, grateful for comments! Jorgen |
Re: Oil pan vs tie rod clearance I have put a B engine in an A frame, and the pan clearance is the same with both engines. If your tie rod hits the pan there is a problem, perhaps with the front mount.

Re: Oil pan vs tie rod clearance Assuming you are using the stock Model "A" engine mount positions, there should be no clearance problem. I use Model B engines in my Model "As" exclusively, and have not had any clearance issue with the tie rod. The shape of the Model "B" pan is similar to Model "A" pan up front.
Float-O-Motor mounts will not cause a tie rod clearance problem either. |
Re: Oil pan vs tie rod clearance Thank you guys!
I bought a B-engine that had been sitting in a Model A, and they had made some changes to the front end of the oil pan! Well .. you never know the reason. Tanks Jorgen |

If 'they' made any changes to the FRONT END of the (either) oil pan..A or B, there must have been some 'hot rodding' mods going on (read as , dropped axle, etc). I have used B engine and pan(presently in A roadster), and have used an A pan in a B engine (in shed waiting its turn)....without front of pan modification ! |

Picture looks like pan can be used yet, if not wanting 'stock' look:) |
