'38 and '40 pickup transmissions

My '38 pickup has a 4 speed and I wondering if a '40-'41 pickup 3 speed will interchange and will it be synchronized like a '40 or '41 car transmission. Thanks. Jim

I believe it should swap, I don't have a green bible to go by though. So you'll have to check.
The clutch shaft is a possible issue, that maybe just a swap with the 38 one.
The 40-41 three speed should have same insides as the car transmission 're synchro on 2-3 shift. It may have slightly different 1st and 2nd ratios to the car trans, it's not that different, most don't even notice.
Kube would be the man that knows this 38-40 swap ability 're the clutch shaft. This is right in his era. Others will have probably done this swap.
Martin.

I did the swap from a 4 speed in my 40 P/U with a 48 car transmission ( I wanted 3 on the tree) did not seem to have any problem of course it is not running yet :)

Re: '38 and '40 pickup transmissions

the only problem is the clutch linkage-up thru 39 they had a lever arm on the clutch throw out bearing cross shaft, 40 up they have a keyed or slotted connection-easy to change-use your 38 clutch throw out bearing cross shaft in the 40-up transmission
