Replacing studs on a rear spare tire mount One of the studs holding the spare tire on the rear of my car is striped. How do I remove remove and replace both of them?

Re: Replacing studs on a rear spare tire mount Are you talking about the studs on the carrier that the spare tire lug nuts screw onto? I believe they are simply pressed in. I'd use heat and penetrating fluid and a press to get them out.

Re: Replacing studs on a rear spare tire mount There are several versions but where the spare bolts on they used a carriage type bolt that fit into the punched square holes. They have a special head on those bolts and they were likely a tight fit to the carrier. I can't tell if they were swaged or not. One of the holes cracked on mine so a previous owner has regulat dome head carriage bolts welded onto the carrier. Typical shade tree repair.

Re: Replacing studs on a rear spare tire mount They do appear to be swedged. You need to remove the carrier and use a press to remove it and then press a new one in.

Re: Replacing studs on a rear spare tire mount The bolts are available from sources. I looked at the ones on Snyder's site and they do have a swage edge on them.
