1935 coupe seat
 

Looking for a bit of advice:
I am putting together a 35 coupe seat, I have original steel base, wooden base and back plus lift up sections, new start springs etc. I made new seat side panels from plywood copying an original set.
My question concerns the upholstering of these side panels: do they get upholstered off the frame and then attached to the steel base or are they upholstered / covered in situ?
I ask as when the panel is attached to the seat base there does not seem to be enough clearance between it and the metal panel for upholstery.
I could easily trim the wooden part down at the point where it meets but as I say these are copies of original panels.
If anyone has a picture of an upholstered seat frame it would be much appreciated.

The 36 seat back elevates, the 35 does not. There could also be a difference in the final back rest height. This information is covered on page 66 of the 35-36 restoration book, along with dimensions.

The side plywood is assembled and then upholstered with tacks going through the side sheet metal and into the plywood. If you have not replaced the side sheet metal you should be able to see the small tack holes.

Thanks Terry, meant to say it is a 36 seat, apologies for my fat fingered typo.
I will also go and check out the book, I should have done so as it lies at my bedside!

Couple pictures I took of '36 side panels as removed from what was a supposedly original seat. Can see the portion of inside fabric loose from where it extended over the metal seat side and was tacked down after the side was bolted in place. The tack holes for this are the lower row in the side frame picture. One picture I saved of another seat kinda shows what's left of the trim covering the inside metal.

I guess I didn't exactly answer your question; but the seat side panels have to be attached to the seat and then the trim slipped over. There was light padding backing up the fabric both inside and outside of the panel.
