41 pickup project

5 Attachment(s)
I've been a member here for a while, but my 40 coupe project is more of a Hamb fit. My latest is a 41 p/u with an 8ba and stock rear end and trans.
It needs paint and body work but it does drive, except for lights. I have ordered a complete wiring harness from Tyree Harris.
The purpose of this post is to find out if the 40 car gas pedal and linkage will work or is the same as the 41 truck. Also, the cowl vent operator and mount has been cut out and I would like to know what that is supposed to look like. I have some 40 car operator parts that maybe I could adapt.

Nice truck; get the wiring done and add a front bumper (for other folks' boo-boo's) and drive it. Heh-heh, it seems everyone BUT Ryan can find one of these.:D

Re: 41 pickup project

I think Ryan just wants a nicer one.:)

Good move on the wires from Tyree. I rewired my 45 using his wires. Pretty easy to do. My horn doesn't work now, but that may be something else :-)

Looks like you got a very important piece on the hood. You have the stock hood handle. Tough to find and expensive if you can find one. Nice project. The cowl vent operating mechanism is pickup only and should be the same from '40-'47. Hopefully the dash bracing has not been removed as the mechanism bolts to the bracing. If you want a nice little book on the '40-'41 pickups contact the Early Ford V-8 Club; www.earlyfordv8.org. The book is $10 and well worth the money.

You said it TJ; the dash bracing is cut out. I did buy the book and there was an interior picture that appeared to have a "spoon " style accelerator pedal. The parts catalogs show a floor mounted style ( like a car). My truck has a spoon style that's been modified.

I always check the part #s in the car & truck catalogs . If they are the same you got your answer !

The spoon type pedal should be correct

Here are some pictures of the work being done. I still need some pictures of the cowl vent mechanism.

I just replaced the wiring in my 40 truck with wires from Tyree. Good choice! How well does the engine start? From the pictures of your engine compartment it looks like your battery cables are a little small. Maybe just the angle.

Gas pedal is 40 to 47 V8 for certain but i also think 35 to 39 is the same for trucks only. The 4 cyl and 6 cyl gas pedal is different

Re: 41 pickup project

Thanks for the pictures Clete. That's way different than the car pieces. I need to find that assembly for sale.

Re: 41 pickup project

My truck was originally a 6 cyl. The front crossmember has been changed but it still has the 6 cyl radiator mounts and hood.

By chance does your truck have the 6 cyl front fender braces? I got a truck here that has all the 6 cyl front end pieces but has a V8 motor and fender brace ( hood latch, grill crossbar, 6 cyl lower chin, inner fenders with the 6 cyl reinforcement, extened radiator mounts which have 2 sets of holes and the 6 cyl front crossmember), doesnt show any sign of ever having a 6 cyl motor? Motor looks like its never been out of the chassis, has alll the splash pans intact.

I thought adding some pix to an old post might add info about using a T70 transmission , from an F 150, in a V8 Ford chassis without trans mods might be useful. These are from my 41 pickup build. 59A engine and open drive banjo rear. the green color is from the storage building.
