Magnito

are there articles on installing a mag in place of the dist. I have several 4 acyl. mages that could possibly be adapted to work

Do you know the advance curves for these magnetos? Are these possibly tractor mags?

Remember, just because something can be made to fit, isn't a good reason to make it fit.

Stock ignition is so easy to fix and maintain, that I wouldn't change.

I know of a Model A with twin ignition. Points and coil for one and magneto for the other. It has an OHV head from the 30's and quite a competition history. For ordinary running, why would you bother. Like Tom said, the standard system is soooo simple and reliable.

Most Mags put a tremendous load on the dist drive gear & shafts.

I use to change tractor magnetos to dist. and use a coil. Don't go there will not help your engine. But might give you a fit. Do you know how to set the trimming, with the impulse in the mag.

It does take some power to drive a mag but would it be more than what it takes to drive the oil pump with 20W-50 in the crankcase?
