help with 34 fender welt routing Hi folks, can anyone tell me...when I start to run the rear fender welt on my 34 where it meets the running board as it comes over to meet the gas tank cover, does it continue across the tank cover to the other rear fender? Or would it bend and go down the side of the cover towards the bumper brackets? Or none of the above. Thanks for any help. Ken

Re: help with 34 fender welt routing It was originally continuous from the front at the running board to the end of the side of the gas tank cover/rear fender junction. A separate piece was used at the upper edge of the gas tank cover.

Re: help with 34 fender welt routing Dave thanks ! super fast response! Can you elaborate on the front fenders? Ken

Re: help with 34 fender welt routing From the front of the running boards to the spacer joining the two front fenders beneath the grille (remembering that originally the spacer was first attached to the grille and therefore in place already when the front fenders were installed).

Re: help with 34 fender welt routing Ken a trick to use when running the welting along the fender to the rear gas panel is to not terminate the welting at the drip edge of the gas tank panel. Leave it long and bend it around and tuck it under and attach the end under the washer that bolts the gas tank panel to the fender. That way you won't see the cord and rough edge that always frays along in the future. In response to the front fender welting. I believe the welting on a 34 continues around the grille and to the other fender on the opposite side terminating at both running boards. On 33 it was spliced cut at the center of the fender joiner meaning it was 2pcs. not a continuous one

Re: help with 34 fender welt routing Read the body parts catalog and you will note that the front fender welting is two separate pieces for both '33 and '34, part numbers 40-16070 and 40-16071. In both model years the spacer is attached to the grille and in place attached to the radiator without welting (anti-squeak in Ford parlance) before the front fenders are installed. A single piece of welting running from running board to running board dangling from the spacer attached to the grille would be unwieldy in an assembly operation.
