New engine Hi I have a new car with A engine , drilled crank, insert bearings, filter, modified stock pump. Oil press is15 lbs hot cruise speed ,5 lbs idle wondering if this is ok to run till I get diff pump? Thanks

Re: New engine Hello Hayshaker those are good numbers for any A model even for full pressure oil engines I have A and Bs with Full pressure conversion using V8 pumps and modified A pumps and that's about as good as it gets

Re: New engine colin1928, I built my own pressurized oil system and my idle oil pressure is 15 lbs and at rpm's above 1000, the the pressure is 35 lbs. In colder weather, the pressure can reach 45 lbs., so 5 and 15 lbs isn't "as good as it gets".

If you are getting 15 psi at 500rpm hot after highway driving say 1 hour I would like to know your secret I have spoken with lots of top engine guys who all say hot oil= low pressure in bangers all of mine have had around 5 psi hot idle and have many hard miles on them Colin |

You should also check the guys at F.A.S.T You can also ask the guys on the hamb about your oil pressure at the monthly banger meet they build and race A/B engines or any of the engine guys here they are all very helpful |
Re: New engine colin1928: I do get 15 PSI at 500 RPM's with hot oil. I am running a Stipe oil pump, inline remote mounted full-flow oil filter, 3/8 inch oil from the pump to the oil filter and also 3/8 inch manifold feeding two 1/4 inch and one 5/16 inch oil lines to the mains. My valve chamber pressure relief valve is set to 35 PSI and I have two oil "weep" holes of .055 inches for valve chamber and timing gear oiling. My bearings are AER inserts and I'm running a Swalm's cross drilled and counter weighted crank. My oil pressure will creep above 35 PSI when running above 2500 RPM's. Also, my oil pressure gauge is mounted after the oil filter. I have 3000 miles on this engine configuration and my only problem has been an oil leak from the rear seal. Now you know my "secret".

Re: New engine I run modified V8 pumps, and set the regulator at 35 lbs. 5 lbs. at idle is enough. The F.A.S.T. web site is www.hotforhotfours.com I highly recommend taking their magazine.

Re: New engine I have a modified V8 pump from Stan Vermeil. Around here along the California coast, where temperatures are moderate, oil pressure at idle is 20psi with an engine at operating temp. In Vegas during the heat wave of June, it idled at 5 psi. I set the top oil press at 35. It was at 45, but that caused leakage at the rear main seal.
